Vin Sinners - The Band
Vin Sinners is an independent rock n’ roll band founded by their vocalist and producer who goes by the same name. The band operates in the UAE and while there have been several changes to their line up over the past two years are now prepared for massive moves in the Rock music genre.
Vin was born Vinesh Nair and is a musician originally from Chennai, India who lives in Dubai. Vin’s story is a comeback tale of sorts after several years in the wilderness.
Vin started singing in a church choir at the age of 9 as an escape from annoying study sessions at the boarding school he was studying in. By 1991, he had started writing music and had compiled a significant amount of material. The same year, Vin joined hands with Gerard Brewty to form the band Acanthus that consisted of Gavin, Adrian, Sheridan and Vijay. Nothing spectacular came out of that except that Vin found that his real love for music was in Rock and an incredibly talented bunch of musicians would go their separate ways, yet as great friends. Vijay who played lead guitars on Acanthus now plays with The Raghu Dixit Project in India. Acanthus was all about 80s and 90s rock covers and provided an ideal break from the overload of Deep Purple renditions that every other band in India at that time was busy dishing out. A dozen shows across some parts of India and the band was history. But something didn't die...
With plenty of written and composed material in a hidden trunk in his home, Vin took a break from music to focus on his corporate career.
After almost 13 years of silence, Vin Sinners took to writing fresh material in January 2009. By the end of the month, there were more than 35 songs written and enough composed material for a full studio album and on May 25th, 2010, Sinners was introduced to Atif Ali, an immensely talented musician from Pakistan who runs a studio called 'The Playback Lounge' in Dubai, UAE. In a matter of seconds, it was clear that there was something that could come together and the journey to give voice and melody to the heaps of material began.
Without a band, there would obviously be no gigs and no fans and so Vin began to seek out the kind of talent that would be as passionate about the material as he was and the line up started to take shape with A-Fax (bass) and Nipin (drums) coming in. Nelson Floyd (guitars), Kurt (guitars) and Cmith (keyboards) joined the band and Vin Sinners did their first performance on Nov 5th, 2010. The band played only original material that night. It was a good start but there was a lot more work required.
Nelson Floyd and Nipin eventually left the band citing personal commitments but feature on a few songs that feature on the final album. On October 14th, Vin Sinners announced that Adel Restom from Syria would be the new axe-man. Stanley Joseph spent a few months with the band before exiting citing work commitments. Naveen ‘The Skinner’ from the popular Urdu rock band ‘Streben’ joined in as the new drummer and the launch date of the album was immediately announced and set for December 9th, 2011. The album titled ‘An Element of Surprise’ was received extremely well and reviews from the media and rock n’ roll fans claimed it to be one of the best rock albums released in the UAE during the year.
Soon after the launch, Kurt and A-Fax quit due to commitments with other bands but were soon replaced with Joe Demon and Ash Hammer who is also the founder of the Indian metal band Blood & Iron.
